As I can see the world continues
to heat up by climate change in a very aspect. Based on Climate Tracker, many
countries are already facing the impacts of climate change. Even the Paris
Agreement on climate change tries to stop the temperature increase below 1.5
degree, but truly it is not enough to deep global warming below 2 degree and
certainly not 1.5 degree.
Somehow fossil fuel industry is
considered as the most powerful actor related to the barrier of the
implementation of Paris Agreement to reduce the carbon emission. Specifically
money is the main actor of disagreement over a climate change agreement between
world leaders as well as powerful fuel industries. Leaders normally think about
national economic interests rather than focus on future generation especially
countries that benefit much from fossil fuel industries. An addition, the
lingering disagreements critically caused by the amount of money wealthy,
developed nations should pay the developing world to adapt to climate changes
and how ambition emission-reduction targets should be. However, many vulnerable
countries insist that they should not be required to contribute to emissions
cut at the same level as countries that industrialized long ago and are thus
historically responsible for most of the climate change today.
Just as tobacco kills millions of
people every year, FCTC of the World Health Organization tries to make tobacco
industry goes out of the business by implementing taxes and more strict
policies. Similarly, based on UNFCCC, climate change is already responsible for
the death of 300.000 people per year. Even UNFCCC creates rules and regulations
to reduce greenhouse gas emission and keep temperature increase to safe limit,
the fossil fuel industries have no restrictions to enter and continue to
influence the international climate change negotiation (Climate Tracker).
